The Cordillera Real mountain range is located southeast of Lake Titicaca and east of the government capital La Paz. The Cordillera Real consists mainly of granite and is 125 km long and 20 km wide. The lowlands of the Amazon provide high humidity in the mountains. This explains why a relatively large part of the mountain range is covered with ice. The Illimani is the highest mountain of the Cordillera Real.

There is a variety of treks to choose from in this beautiful mountain area. Popular treks are the Takesi Trekking and the Choro Inca Trail, which takes you down into the tropical Yungas.
For those seeking to mountaineer, peak climbs are also possible.
