San Pedro de Atacama - Salar de Uyuni - San Pedro de Atacama, private tour
You will have a shared transfer by bus between 7.00 - 7.30 hrs. from San Pedro de Atacama to the border at Hito Cajón. After receiving a stamp in your passport you will change transport and start your tour by 4x4 Jeep.
Today you will get to see Laguna Verde (green lagoon) and the nearby Volcano Licancabur.
You will drive through the Salvador Dalí Desert to arrive at the natural thermal water of the hot springs (Polques).
Next stop will be at Laguna Colorada (red lagoon), where you can see flamingos.
The journey continues driving through the Silolí Desert where you will get to see the Árbol de Piedra (stone tree), a rock formation of over eight meters high.
You will pass the so called Lagunas Altoandinas: Laguna Ramaditas, Laguna Honda, Laguna Chiarkota, Laguna Hedionda and Laguna Cañapa where flamingos can be spotted as well.
Then you will arrive at a viewpoint from where you will have a good view of the semi-active Ollagüe Volcano.
Probably you will see some wildlife today as well.
Then your drive continues through the salt flat of Chiguana to San Juan, Aguaquiza or Puerto Chuvica where you will spend the night in a basic accommodation. Depending on your choice this will be in a basic bunkroom with shared bathroom or in a basic private room with private bathroom.
On the second day you will enter the salt flats and drive to the cactus island Incahuasi. Here you will have lunch and you can go for a short walk over the island along the huge cacti to enjoy the fabulous views over the salt flats.
Later on you will visit the Salt Hotel, see Ojos del Salar (eyes of the salt flat); here bubbling gases escape from underneath the salt flat, and Montones de Sal (salt piles) at the spot where salt is extracted.
In Colchani handicrafts made of salt can be seen, as well as the process of making domestic salt, and the Salt Museum.
At the Train Cemetery near Uyuni you can see antique English trains that where brought to Bolivia many years ago and that are no longer in use.
You continue your trip via San Cristóbal and Alota to Villa Mar, where you will spend the night in a basic accommodation. Depending on your choice this will be in a basic bunkroom with shared bathroom or in a basic private room with private bathroom.
On the third and last day you will leave early. Close to Villa Mar you will pass the 'bofedales', a grassy area where you are likely to see lamas, alpacas and vicuñas.
You continue the tour visiting Laguna Capina and Laguna Colorada (red lagoon).
Next stops will be at the geyser Sol de Mañana and at the hot springs and you will pass Laguna Chalviri. Finally, after seeing Laguna Verde (green lagoon), the Volcano Licancabur and Laguna Blanca (white lagoon), you will reach the border crossing Hito Cajón where you will pay the tourist tax and make your connection at 14.30 hrs. with your transfer to San Pedro de Atacama.
