City Tour and Chacaltaya, full day, private tour
This tour combines a visit to the highest ski slope in the world with the City Tour, and together it will be a full day tour.
The ski area of Chacaltaya is situated 35 km from La Paz. You will have an amazing bus ride over narrow roads and with deep drop offs up to a spot at 5,352 m.
During a small hike you can reach the top (5.395 m). Walking at this altitude is quite demanding, but it is a good work out.
From this height you can enjoy the beauty of the Cordillera Real (Andean mountain range) and of the extraordinary landscape of the Altiplano. In the distance you can see the city of La Paz and Lake Titicaca.
The tour starts at 9.00 hrs. with the pick-up from your hotel. Around 11.30 hrs. you will arrive at the refuge, the ski hut on the Chacaltaya. You will have 1½ hour time at leisure to walk in the area.
After that you will head back to La Paz, where you will have lunch.
In the afternoon you will first go into the more luxurious Miraflores district, where you will visit the archaeological Plaza and the Hernando Siles Stadium.
Continuing the city tour you will visit the nearby Killi Killi viewpoint, from where you will appreciate the view over the majestic Illimani Mountain (6,462 m) with its snow-capped summit. This mountain is the second highest in Bolivia and is the highest point of the Cordillera Real.
From Killi Killi you also have a magnificent view of the urban landscape of the impressive city.
Then you will visit the old city centre, admiring the main Plaza 'Pedro Domingo Murillo'.
The Plaza is surrounded by important buildings as the Governmental Palace, the National Congress and the Metropolitan Cathedral.
You will also visit some small but interesting museums in Jaén Street.
Of course the Witches' Market cannot be left out of the city tour and you also go to the handicrafts market where you might want to buy a nice souvenir.
Finally you will visit the beautiful San Francisco basilica in Andean Baroque style, after which the tour ends around 17.30 hrs.
